I've found that men and women are very different when it comes to online relationships.

Women try to discover the person through their words, and in doing so often feel they know the 'real' man, then eagerly anticipate discovering the exterior package as well. When they meet, she wants to look beyond his appearance.

Men, on the other hand, tend to build a visual and then fall in love with her. Even if the real woman is wonderful, when they finally meet he is usually disappointed because she does not - can not - live up to his fantasy. Of course, some times she is even better. Wink

While I must agree with your general statement, I try not to stereotype people as much as possible because both can show something altogether different. If for no other reason that there are men acting women and women acting men. There is also the old saying of "The Internet, where the men are men, the women are men and the kids are FBI agents!" ;P

Sorry, but I'll stick to me only reply of "Individual results will vary".

Well, both my husband (at that time) and I were part of the #beginner channel crowd. His nick was "Cowboy". "Popeye" is my brother.

I remember most of the names you've mentioned, if not to talk to just from seeing them online. Its always a thrill to meet someone from those days. I'm glad to see you're running your own network now. That's so cool!

Well, I'm -learning- how to run one and paying for a couple of ircd shell accounts. If it wasn't for my co-network admin Remedy, I'd be lost. All credit goes to him. Smile

I got really messed up when Superchat went the way of the Do-do. H was not like anything else I came in contact with after that and that's all I had been focusing on learning. *boggles*

Yes, I'm blaming it on Jason. Razz

H was unique. Back then it had features that simply did not exist on other networks, and many that were not incorporated into services for years to come. We had many laughs over coders claiming to be the first for this or that when Jason had actually coded the same thing years before.

Blame away. Jason is to blame for a LOT of things. ;)

Smile I was down and out, got into chating a few years ago, I went all over the map, from msn to yahoo, to pal talk you name it, One night i went into a room called spankthose brats, Curious i went in , one person was there and she was not talking. So be real curious i went back many times till one time she did say hello. We chated and talked many times. after about a year we decided to meet. Now she lived in another country also. Well i took the trip. Planed on only staying 4 days. Well after 3 weeks we knew we had something special. So we did visit each other for about 6 months after, Than on my last visit, i asked the Question, Would you marry me. The rest is history, 4 years married and we still have a great relationship. It took time, money for immgergrations , howver if u love someone, you turn over a mountain. I found my soul mate on chat. I know there is someone for everyone, Just do not give up trying.

People fall in love in different places each day. Do I believe in love at first sight? No. But I do believe that are you are truly interested in love, then you can find someone. When I started chatting on irc a little over 13 years ago I didn't know what to expect, and I sure wasn't looking to find love. I chatted with various people from different networks, met a few of them as friends, we hung out, went to movies and clubs and things, but it was all just as friends, Nothing more.

Then I was on an IRC Network that I'd never been to before, someone asked if there was anyone from Florida, I spoke up and said that I wasn't FROM Florida, but I did live there. She messaged me, ask where I was, I told her, we chatted, meet in person a few times, and the rest is history.

As I stated in my other post, we have been together 6 years now, been married almost 5, and we have a beautiful little girl. So yes, you can find love on IRC, but its not limited to IRC. You can fall in love any where in the world, as long as you have the desire to want love, and to want to be loved. I am also one that thinks there is someone for everyone.

Just my 2 cents worth *tink* *tink*

Hubby and I met on IRC (dalnet) in the late nineties. Married in 2002. Still together and happy. IT CAN HAPPEN AND DOES!
