ThePlanet, back when I had service with them a few years ago didn't allow IRC, or at least thats what they told me.

As for FDC Servers, I wouldn't really recommend them. I had a dedicated server with them a few years ago as well and it was a nightmare. My server was offline and down daily. In fact, I believe it was gone every 3 hours or so. The support was horrible, as it sometimes took longer than 2 days to get it back on.

They didn't even take the time to fix my "managed" server problem that kept making it go offline, didn't even tell me why it kept going offline either.

As for the question regarding Core Networks. I would probably do a search through google about them to see if you can find any reviews or anything about them. I did find a review at http://www.webhostingstuff.com/company/CoreNetworksnet.html

I only found one customer review there which said:
I have a dedicated server with them. I have had it for about 3 months now and have not had any problems at all with it. The bandwidth is fast, the support is great, and the value is unbeatable! I won't go to anyone else for service!

There is also a customer review at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archive/index.php/t-572660.html and a couple more at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=689040

So far from what I've read, it seems that Core Networks is top notch, with only one slight problem, a glitchy billing system which often bills twice, but surely as mentioned by customers, with the superior support, they will resolve it in no time. For $25, you can't really beat it, give it a try! I'm planning to do so next month in fact.

We have a server from theplanet running on our network at the moment - if you ask them about it they sometimes permit you to run it (just don't buy a server and run it without permission).

FDCServers has apparently changed quite considerably since its previous days of poor connectivity and outages - I seem to remember they've completely removed cogent from their network and tidied their own network up a bit. Granted, I still probably wouldn't trust them myself.

I never knew that about The Planet. Thank you for the info. The claim of FDC Servers completely changing and improving connectivity, have they improved their support? The only real way I would give them a try again is if I were to get a temporary trial first to see if their service has improved. Since my service with them in the past has been horrible, I will not trust it again until proven otherwise. If they would have given me any credit for the downtime, or a refund, I may have trusted them a bit more, but they didn't. I shouldn't hold a grudge, because service can change over the years, but I just won't trust them until they prove otherwise.

I've had a theplanet box for mroe than a year and it is sincerely excellent.
Unfortunately I've shut down my hosting company so I gave up the box but it allowed irc etc.

The support was good and adding features to the box was easy as. I'd recommend theplanet.com anytime.

P.s: I'm not afiliated with them in any way. Just had a very good experience with them.
$69/mo a good box

corenetworks.net/dedicated/ very good. costly on the startup but they have excellent uptime and stability. not sure what the customer service is like though. never had to use them. set up really quick though Very Happy.
