i've noticed it several times, where a scrawl bot will hang around for several minutes.
Typically is connected for around 10s and disconnects again. |

I usually watch scrawl's connections to the network that I admin on, and there was one time in the last 48 hours (I can't remember the exact time of day that it occured so no log) that scrawl did connect and stayed on for about 20 minutes before disconnecting. I double-checked to make sure it wasn't just my client - I logged on with another system on another ISP after about 10 minutes to make sure I was seeing things correctly and scrawl was still there.
I don't think it has happened since then, but I don't idle on the server much because my main system is my laptop. No one else on the staff has mentioned it staying for that long again though. |

Yeah, I don't actively note it the quit messages like that, it just catches my eye when it says it took 264 seconds instead of the usual 10.
I figure that it's stuck in a loop or something, and then some sort of master policy invokes a different function call to make it quit after a maximum of x seconds or something.
Or maybe Jason is slowly taking over the world
(that was a joke) |

Its a big joke between myself and the server owner about how fast we can get comments in on scrawl when it connects and is gone in about 5-10 seconds. But as of the time I'm writing this, scrawl has been connected for 47 minutes |

It finally disconnected - right around the end of the 30 minute edit window on posts here :S It is responding to versions, so I'm going to assume that yes, it is getting stuck in a loop. I wonder if it might be related to what ircd/services combo is being used, since it seems to only be happening to a few of us? Though I really don't know what could be causing it to happen only at random intervals and not every time it attempts /list
We are a small network (less than 150 users) so we run the (sometimes reviled) Unreal 3.2.7 with Anope 1.6.5 (not my choice - I didn't install Anope and will be upgrading to the 1.7.x series soon). Like Anarchy, I don't care/mind if scrawl is connected longer than usual, I just would like to figure out *why* it is connecting for such a long period of time.

| as i said in my original post, i don't have a problem with the scrawl idling, but connecting to my server for over an hour (even though it says "indexed 81 channels in 226 secs", which is more like four minutes) when it usually takes 10 seconds probably isn't doing the searchirc server any favours. |
